MKV to MP3 Converter

MKV files are usually the biggest videos on anyone’s drive, which is exactly why uploading them to a converter is painful. This one runs in your browser: a 6GB Matroska file is read straight from disk, and only the audio comes back out as an MP3.

Jak to działa

1

Select your MKV

Drop the .mkv file above. Matroska files with AAC, AC-3, DTS, FLAC, or Opus audio all work.

2

Set the bitrate

Pick 128, 192, or 320 kbps. For film soundtracks and concert recordings, 320 kbps is worth it.

3

Download your MP3

Preview it in the page and save. Nothing was uploaded, so a huge source file costs you no bandwidth at all.

Kluczowe funkcje

Co wyróżnia to mkv to mp3.

Built for very large files

No upload means no upload timeout. Multi-gigabyte MKV files that other converters refuse outright are handled locally.

Handles any Matroska audio codec

AAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, DTS, FLAC, Vorbis, Opus, and MP3 sources are all decoded and re-encoded to a clean MP3.

Surround audio downmixed properly

5.1 and 7.1 tracks are downmixed to stereo with FFmpeg’s standard matrix, so dialogue stays audible instead of vanishing.

Nothing leaves your computer

The whole conversion happens in your browser tab. No copy of your film or recording is created on a server.

No signup, no ads, no waiting

Open the page, drop a file, get audio. There is no queue because there is no shared server doing the work.

Scriptable through the API

For a library of MKV files, POST each one to /v1/convert/audio instead of clicking through a page.

Przykłady zastosowań

Typowe scenariusze, w których to narzędzie oszczędza czas.

Rip a soundtrack from a film

Extract the score or dialogue from an MKV you own to listen to separately, without loading a video editor.

Keep the audio from a recorded stream

OBS and many capture tools write MKV because it survives crashes. Pull the commentary or music out as MP3.

Archive lectures compactly

A recorded lecture in MKV can be several gigabytes; the audio at 128 kbps is a small fraction of that.

Free up disk space

When only the audio matters — a concert, a talk, an interview — keep the MP3 and delete the video.

Feed audio to transcription

Transcription tools rarely accept MKV. Convert to MP3 first, or use ParseJet’s transcription endpoint directly.

Batch-process a media library

Walk a directory of MKV files and convert each through the API, with no local FFmpeg dependency to manage.

Często zadawane pytania

How do I convert MKV to MP3?

Drop the .mkv file above, choose a bitrate, and click Convert. The audio track is decoded and re-encoded as MP3 inside your browser, then offered as a download — no upload and no account.

Can it handle very large MKV files?

Yes, and that is the main reason to use it. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no size cap or upload timeout. Files up to about 1.5GB convert reliably in a browser tab; for larger libraries, use the API.

My MKV has several audio tracks — which one is used?

The default track is used, which is normally the primary language chosen by whoever created the file. To pick a specific track, remux it out with MKVToolNix first, or use the API where you can convert each extracted track separately.

Does it work with AC-3, DTS, or FLAC audio?

Yes. All the codecs commonly muxed into Matroska — AAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, DTS, FLAC, Vorbis, Opus — are decoded and re-encoded to MP3.

What happens to 5.1 surround sound?

It is downmixed to stereo using FFmpeg’s standard downmix, which keeps the centre channel (usually dialogue) at a sensible level. MP3 cannot carry discrete surround channels, so a downmix is unavoidable.

Why did my MKV fail to convert?

Usually the file has no audio stream, or the download that produced it is incomplete. A partially downloaded MKV often still plays the beginning but has a broken index, which stops conversion.

Is it free?

The browser converter is completely free and unlimited. The API is free for 300 credits per month, with paid plans from $19/month for higher volume.
