How do I convert AVI to MP3?

Drop the .avi file above, choose a bitrate, and click Convert. The audio track is decoded and written as MP3 in your browser, with no upload and no software to install.

My AVI plays with no sound — will converting help?

Usually yes. Silent playback normally means your player lacks the audio codec inside the AVI, not that the audio is missing. The converter decodes those codecs itself, so the resulting MP3 plays normally.

Which AVI audio codecs are supported?

MP3, AC-3, MP2, PCM, and ADPCM — the codecs found in DivX and Xvid rips, camcorder footage, and older captures. All are re-encoded to a standard MP3.

Will the MP3 sound better than the AVI?

No. Conversion cannot add quality the original never had; old AVI audio is often 96–128 kbps to begin with. Choosing 320 kbps only makes a bigger file, not a better one.

Is there a file size limit?

No, because nothing is uploaded. Uncompressed AVIs can be very large, and they convert fine as long as your machine has the memory. For very large batches, use the API.
