Can I convert WMV to MP3 on a Mac?

Why will nothing play my WMV file?

WMV is a Microsoft container, and support for it has been removed from most modern players, phones, and editors. Converting the audio to MP3 gives you a file that plays everywhere.

Is WMA audio supported?

Yes. WMV files normally contain WMA or WMA Pro audio, and both are decoded and converted. Files protected by Windows Media DRM cannot be converted by any tool.

Will the audio quality drop?

Marginally, since re-encoding one lossy format to another always costs a little. WMA in old WMV files is typically 64–128 kbps, so converting at 128 or 192 kbps preserves everything audible.
