ParseJet

Markdown to Word Converter

Upload a Markdown file and download a Word document. Headings become Word headings, lists stay lists, pipe tables become real tables, and bold, italic, links and code blocks are preserved — so the .docx opens cleanly in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Free, no signup, and available through the API for batches.

How it works

1

Upload your Markdown

Drop a .md or .txt file — a README, notes from Obsidian or Notion, an AI-written draft.

2

Structure is mapped

Headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, tables, quotes, code and inline formatting are converted to their Word equivalents.

3

Download the .docx

Open it in Word or upload it to Google Docs. Styles are standard, so themes and templates apply.

Key features

What makes this markdown to word stand out.

Real Word headings

# to #### map to Heading 1 to 4, so the navigation pane and table of contents work.

Lists and tables

Bullets, numbered lists and pipe tables come through as native Word lists and grid tables with bold header rows.

Inline formatting kept

Bold, italic, inline code and links are preserved; fenced code blocks are set in a monospace font.

No pandoc, no install

Works in the browser on any device, and through one API call from any language.

More than Markdown

The same converter turns HTML, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel and even images (via OCR) into Word documents.

Batch via API

Convert a whole docs folder to .docx with a short script.

Use cases

Common scenarios where this tool saves you time.

Share docs with non-developers

Hand a README or design doc to people who live in Word without reformatting it.

AI drafts to documents

ChatGPT and Claude write in Markdown; turn the draft into a .docx for review and tracked changes.

Notes to reports

Obsidian, Notion or Bear exports become deliverables with proper headings and tables.

Google Docs import

Google Docs opens .docx cleanly — the quickest route from Markdown to a shared Google Doc.

Automate with the API

Use the same tool programmatically. Works with any language — just HTTP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Markdown to a Word document?

Upload the .md file above and click Convert; download the .docx that comes back. Three conversions a day are free without an account, and the API does the same for batches.

What Markdown features are supported?

Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, inline code, links, bullet and numbered lists, pipe tables, block quotes, fenced code blocks and horizontal rules. Images and footnotes are not embedded yet.

Can I convert a Google Doc to Markdown instead?

Yes — download the Google Doc as Word (.docx) and upload it to the Word to Markdown tool. Google Docs can also export Markdown directly from File → Download in recent versions.

Does it work with Obsidian or Notion exports?

Yes for standard Markdown. Obsidian-specific syntax such as [[wikilinks]] and callouts is kept as plain text.

Will the Word file use my template styles?

The document uses Word’s built-in style names (Heading 1, List Bullet, Table Grid), so applying your own theme or template restyles everything at once.

Is it free?

Yes. Three free conversions a day with no signup; a conversion costs 2 credits and the free account includes 300 credits per month. Paid plans start at $19/month.
