Table to Markdown Converter

Copy cells from Excel or Google Sheets, a CSV, or an HTML table, paste them above, and get a GitHub-flavored Markdown table you can drop into a README, docs page, pull request, Notion, or an LLM prompt. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your data never leaves your machine.

Drop a .csv, .tsv, .html or .md file, or browse

Accepts CSV,TSV,TXT,MD,HTML files

Runs entirely in your browser. Your table never leaves this page.

How it works

1

Paste or drop your table

Select the cells in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets and paste. CSV text, an HTML <table>, and existing Markdown tables work too — or drop a .csv/.tsv/.html file.

2

Format detected automatically

Spreadsheet pastes arrive as tab-separated text; CSV, HTML, and Markdown are recognized by their structure. The Markdown table updates as you type.

3

Copy the Markdown

Toggle the header row, number alignment, and column padding, then copy or download the result.

Key features

What makes this table to markdown stand out.

Paste straight from Excel or Sheets

Copy a range, paste it here. Tabs become columns, rows stay rows, and the first row becomes the header.

CSV, TSV, HTML, and Markdown in

Quoted CSV fields with commas inside, semicolon-separated exports, HTML tables copied from a web page, and messy Markdown tables are all parsed correctly.

Numbers right-aligned

Columns that contain only numbers, currencies, or percentages get right alignment (---:) so figures line up when rendered.

Readable raw Markdown

Columns are padded to equal width — including correct spacing for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text — so the table is legible even before it is rendered.

Pipes and line breaks escaped

A | inside a cell is escaped and multi-line cells become <br>, so the table never breaks.

Works offline, nothing uploaded

The converter is plain JavaScript running in your browser tab. Paste confidential data with no server involved.

Use cases

Common scenarios where this tool saves you time.

README and docs tables

Turn a spreadsheet of options, versions, or benchmarks into a table for GitHub, GitLab, Docusaurus, or MkDocs.

Pull requests and issues

Paste test results or a comparison straight into a PR description.

Notion, Obsidian, and wikis

Markdown tables paste cleanly into note apps that speak Markdown.

LLM prompts

A Markdown table is the most compact, readable way to hand tabular data to Claude or ChatGPT.

HTML tables from web pages

Copy a table from any site — pricing pages, Wikipedia, dashboards — and convert it in one paste.

Automate with the API

Use the same tool programmatically. Works with any language — just HTTP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an Excel table to Markdown?

Select the cells in Excel, press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac), click into the box above, and paste. The Markdown table appears immediately — copy it with one click. For whole workbooks, upload the .xlsx to the Excel to Markdown tool or the API.

Does it work with Google Sheets?

Yes. Copying a range in Google Sheets puts tab-separated text on the clipboard, which is exactly what this converter expects. Numbers, dates, and text all come through.

Can I convert an HTML table to Markdown?

Yes. Either select the table on a web page and paste it, or paste the raw HTML including the <table> tag. Header cells become the Markdown header row; tags and entities are cleaned up.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser with JavaScript; there is no request to any server. You can even load the page and then go offline.

How do I right-align numbers or add alignment?

Leave "Right-align numbers" on and numeric columns get a ---: separator, which GitHub, GitLab, Notion, and most renderers honor. Turn it off if you want everything left-aligned.

What about .xlsx files with many sheets?

This page is for pasted tables and small text files. For .xlsx or .xls files — including multi-sheet workbooks — use the Excel to Markdown tool, which converts the file on the server and returns one table per sheet.

Is it free?

Yes, completely, with no limits and no account — it runs on your machine. The file-based API is free for 300 credits a month.
